SEEING THROUGH GOD’S EYES

The eyes of the ego see “conflama” (conflict and drama); the eyes of GOD see the potential for growth, healing and harmony. The eyes of the ego see separation; the eyes of GOD see the harmony and bliss that will come when you are one with GOD’s grace. The eyes of the ego see lack; the ceaseless optimism of the eternal eyes of God see the abundant opportunities that come through an infinite number of conduits, because God is the source. When we see through the eyes of the ego, we re-create the ego experiences of difficulty and discord over and over again. When we choose to see and create through the infinite eyes of God, we create the abundance, bliss and harmony that is the “kingdom of heaven” here on earth.
The Soul (our eternal self) has an awareness of its eternity. Our ego identifies solely with the physical body and the biological will to survive. Both are necessary. Ego helps us navigate the earth; the Soul helps us remember why we’re here. The Soul is magnetically attracted to earth so that it can see its erroneous illusions reflected to it “in the flesh” and heal the parts of its consciousness that have felt separate from GOD’s love. The soul sees the earth drama in the same way we see a scary movie where a monster lurks behind the door—we know what’s behind the door, and as the tension builds we want to shout to the actor, “DON’T OPEN THE DOOR”. Our ego will often “open the door” because it is addicted to the drama that is created when we do. This drama makes the ego feel alive and invincible, satisfying its will to survive. We have to operate as if we’re sitting in the chair watching the drama instead of operating as if we don’t know the conflama of the ego behind the door. When we see the world this way, we see through God’s eyes, and here are 3 tips:
Learn the ego’s tricks. A Course In Miracles says, “The false ego’s maxim is seek and do not find”. It will set up a situation in order to justify its false beliefs. A friend recently was stopped by the police and became belligerent (based on the erroneous thought that he was being stopped because of his profile). The policeman was pleasant enough, but my friend argued so forcefully with the cop that the cop tore up the first ticket and wrote another one. The first one was just a warning. The second one was a hefty citation. Consciously, my friend didn’t “create” the ticket, but the ego took a situation that would have been benign and inflamed it to justify the ego’s beliefs. The choice we often make is to blame, justify, and then ask why. We often take the position of a victim in search of a victimizer (one who subconsciously takes action to create the situation that she claims to detest because it justifies her ego’s position). This consciousness is the silent saboteur that lurks beneath the surface of our wants and desires. Right beneath the surface of our dreams for ourselves lies our subconscious mind, which can sabotage what we desire. The ego may create failure to justify its reason for being. Our task is to overcome the ego’s vision and adopt God’s vision of us. God doesn’t see our categories, our limitations, our pasts, or our self-judgment. God only see’s her loving creations as perfect whole and complete just as they are— individual, and equally important strands in the beautiful tapestry she creates of grand design. Each strand is equally important because if a strand is pulled, the tapestry falls apart. A Course In Miracles has a powerful lesson entitled, “I am not a victim of the world I see” that helps us release the consciousness of the ego.
Do not fight the ego, but listen to it. For example, you might hear that your ego is telling you that in order to survive you must reject your true self, because God is not the source of your good, but those from whom you seek approval are. You can then pray for a miracle (the shift in perception) so that you see that God is the source and the world around you is the conduit for your good when you allow it to serve you in an infinite number of ways. At first, this may seem difficult because your ego may say “that’s all well and good, but this is the reality that is in front of me”, giving more power to your external experience. If you don’t want to give power to what is in front of you, give power to what is within you. That light within you is the power to change.
Ask the Holy Spirit to wipe the scales from your eyes and choose to see things differently. Where you have seen yourself as powerless and weak, see yourself as strong. Where you have seen yourself as undeserving of your good, see your self as deserving. Where you have seen yourself as one who has “missed the mark”, and felt guilt as a result, see yourself as innocent, without judgment, shame or blame. Choose and choose again and remember that God has your back.
