This is EXACTLY who we are

Over the last few years when something previously unthinkable happens, many on the right disavow it by saying “this is NOT who we are as Americans”. This may not be who we ASPIRE to be. This may not be who we PURPORT to be. This is not who we PRETEND to be, but this is EXACTLY who we are.
The United States has a representative government, meaning its government represents its people. Its people elected those who either oppose or enable previously unfathomable acts of hatred, cruelty, ignorance, racism, misogyny and irresponsibility. If more people support these unconscionable acts either through cowardice or complicity, we elected them and we can un-elect them.
This is good news.
Since “all things work together for the good” (Matthew 8:28) and all things past, present and to be are gently planned by the one who would lead you to your good (A Course In Miracles, Lesson 135) and all things are lessons God would have us learn (A Course In Mracles, Lesson 193) have we learned our lesson yet?
Have we seen the underbelly of our collective consciousness clearly enough to not only disavow it with shallow platitudes, but to heal the darkness within each of us that contributes to the darkness projected onto our media screens, now that it is brought into clear and undeniable relief? Can we embrace the truth in the song Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me? Can we individually and collectively move into prayer, meditation, and mindfulness and allow the spirit of love, peace, compassion, courage and wisdom to move through us, flow from us and help heal the consciousness of the world as a by-product of our own healing. It is for this purpose that we chose to be born.
