Let It Roll

I’ve carried a boulder all my life,
I didn’t realize it.
Had I realized it I would have put it down.
I’ve been pushing it uphill,
It’s gotten harder and harder, It’s gotten more tedious.
I didn’t realize I carried this boulder,
It was brilliantly disguised,
It was disguised as “what others did to me”
It was disguised as “what others didn’t do for me”
It was comprised of a million little pebbles of resentment that weighted me down.
I’ve found ways over the years to lighten the load,
God has helped me lighten the load,
But sometimes, I enjoyed complaining more than I enjoyed giving it over to God.
With I lighter load, I got closer to the top of the hill, With a lighter load the dark tunnel seemed to come to an end,
Yet I still felt the weight of all the pebbles, and the boulder they had become.
One day, something happened
Through the power of consistent intention, consistent attention, and consistent grace, something happened.
Suddenly, I had pushed the bolder over the top of the hill.
The force of Gravity had done the rest, sending the boulder rolling down into the nothingness of the dark valley of the shadows from whence it came.
God’s gravity had done for me what I couldn’t do for myself.
Free from the weight, I am ready to soar.
